Germany, HJ. A Mint and Unissued Field Cap

(HJ Sommer-Mütze). An extremely well-preserved HJ field cap, constructed of khaki-tan cotton. The cap is fully surrounded by stylized side walls which are trimmed along the seam with red piping. Stitched onto the lower peak is an HJ insignia executed in red, white, and black machine embroidery, measuring 15 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). A rigid internal reinforcement is palpable along the lower edge, maintaining the cap’s structure, while a light brown rayon liner encompasses the interior. Stitched onto the liner is a fully-intact Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label bearing a maker’s code of “27”. Also clipped onto the cap is an original inventory label bearing a size mark of “52”. The cap measures approximately 25 cm (l) x 9 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor soiling to the base material consistent with age and storage conditions, this unissued cap remains in a near mint condition.
